We’ve now learned the interpreter’s name is Habib Sahar, who works for a contractor for the government.

Sahar said after the blast, he heard distant gunfire — a series of shots — that he believed were from AK-47s. He said the shots seemed to be coming from far away, but he could not determine where it was coming from.

He also remembers Travers pointing out a vehicle, which he identified as a blue sport utility vehicle in a photo on the courtroom wall, that they thought may have been the one that detonated the bomb.

After the convoy crossed the bridge and traveled near a gas station, Sahar said he saw the gunner in vehicle two firing shots. That was the last time he saw or heard any shots, he said.

Sahar said the Marines’ reaction to the blast was not unusual, and he did not witness any improper actions toward Afghani citizens. He also did not see any Afghanis killed or injured except for in the blue SUV.
